Fallout 76 Wastelanders Review

We will be talking about Fallout 76 Wastelanders gameplay, mechanics, changes and over all review. Fallout 76 Wastelanders, is upcoming wastelanders expansion by Bethesda Game Studios.


Fallout 76 Wastelanders Story

So let's take a look at the story first and foremost it's been restructured into two interweaving quests the first is Fallout 76 is original.

Main story except there are new human NPCs each step of the way throughout these quests beats instead of robots and holotapes doing all the heavy lifting this sort of remedies one of the major complaints of Fallout 76 that there was just too much of audio based storytelling.

That was one of the thighs disgraced strengths but when they made it the core of the main story is what it really started to hurt.

So for example a difference is when I went to flatwoods to train to become a responder there's now a woman there dressed as a responder who helps get your quest started rather than some random terminal that for some reason your character felt compelled to read.

It brings a much more natural form of story delivery to the game that you'd expect in the Fallout franchise on the other storyline you'll meet a bartender named Duchess who we've read about in previous vlog 76 news updates who is having trouble with Raiders at her bar.

Now between the Raiders and some of the early vault dwellers that you meet in the beginning of the game it seems like everyone's after some kind of treasure that I couldn't put my finger on.

And there have been references made that the very treasure they're looking for may be tucked away in Fallout 76 Wastelanders.

So this mission led me to doing some building involving a sign that would lure enemies as well as loading a holotape into a radio tower I thought the natural inclusion of building was much better than the heavy handed approach we've seen in Fallout 4 or 76.

And in fact I feel the only time it was somewhat natural and fought for was when they had you getting into the Institute they had to get creative with your build.

And it felt like there the settlement mode was necessary and what 76 I felt like camp was more of a reason to interject a lot of crafting materials and building and survival elements.

But this felt more natural in the story section which I think is once again a step forward one thing I noted when in conversation is that there are now these things that Bethesda had confirmed during their Bethesda game days Panem.

Which is negative speech checks so sometimes when you're doing a speech check and I'll say two plus or one will say one negative essentially these negative speech checks are designed for characters.

Who are incredibly bad at things and I don't want to say you get rewarded for them but you get to experience some pretty funny bits of dialogue one that I saw was because my character was bad at charisma in the beginning of the game.

And you can actually see this on the panel you can suggest that you'd rather mail cards to Raiders to invite them in you can tell them to leave you and duchesses bar alone.

Because that's what your mom did when you were younger with birthday cards or something along those lines and it's ridiculous but it's goofy its fallout.

And I really like that this was a subtle change they've made to speech checks a positive one because there still remains the natural speech checks we've seen.

But one thing that also really caught me off guard was I was in one conversation man and there were seven dialogue options which blew my mind because I exhausted all of them I listened to a ton of dialogue.

It wasn't just one line responses and granted in 76 you're probably gonna see a lot of that that's because the wasteland hasn't been fully overhauled.

So most times when you encounter a conversation it's going to be in a focused area so you have more room to explore our per character rather than an entire world to cover.

But I'm glad that these conversations didn't end up being wasted opportunities I found out a lot about the world about characters about surrounding areas.

And how Bethesda managed to sort of naturally interleave what was established in holotapes and previous notes I had already read into these NPCs multiple NPCs can also hop into conversations.


Fallout 76 Wastelanders Mechanics

So it's not always just a one on one the way the conversation works is you're seeing on screen is the camera will zoom in a little bit ala Fallout 3 or fought New Vegas.

And it'll stay fixed with a little bit of room for movements you can look around a bit you have the option to slot the history of your conversation on the top left corner of the screen.

Or you can hide it away for immersion purposes whatever suits you the facial animations leave a bit to be desired it looks like they took the emotions that you can use in the games photo mode.

Such as happy or sad and then use that as a base to animate from depending on what the character saying so this means that Dutchess absolutely flashed me a creepy smile.

Or two so just keep that in mind this game may end up getting memed a little bit and I wouldn't be surprised is it on the levels of Andromeda bad no.

But there are some funky looking moments now while at this bar there's another NPC called Mort he teaches you all about building I found this to be an interesting aspect to note.

Because it shows how throughout every corner of 76 that Bethesda is really trying to restructure this game even down to simple tutorials with mechanics that have been based in probably their most popular Fallout game yet fought for.

So I like that they're leaving no stone unturned when it comes to rebuilding this game I think it's a approach that will pay off in the long run what I'm saying here may not change your opinion on 76 may not open your mind to trying it again.

And that's totally fine it's not really designed to convince you and just sort of give you my thoughts on it all.

But as you can tell I am commending Bethesda's efforts thus far because if they keep up this level of effort that I'm personally seeing based off my time with it then I think we can see a much better 76 in the future.

I also noted that there are going to be some quests that are better for people who have been playing the game for a while so a lot of what I've stated so far is great if you're hopping in fallout 76 for the first time in years or for the first time ever.

Asked some of the developers on Fallout 76 Wastelanders, about that and they did say that immediately upon signing in a lot of quests will come to you a lot of things will hit you at once.

And so those who have been playing the game for a while will have a lot more content to have access to now as I've mentioned I was allotted some extra time with the game.


Fallout 76 Wastelanders Gameplay and Changes

So I actually took an opportunity and went off exploring I felt I had seen enough of the main story and some of the diverging paths you can take and so I wanted to see what Bethesda had changed throughout this wasteland how much it changed throughout my explorations.

I encountered a scavenger who was looking for a bobby pin and in exchange for that they gave me some junk for crafting it was just a little dynamic encountered I think and help with those point a to point b moments.

I visited old locations I thought could be redone or have some type of new encounters such as the top of the world.

And I can see where some disappointments definitely gonna settle in for new and returning players you see a lot of 76s locations look ripe for a restructuring.

Because artistically they're very imaginative they evoke a desire to explore but when you get there it's just ghouls it's just robots there's not a lot of interesting story there.

And the reality is is that while Bethesda is updating a lot of the map there are still some parts that are gonna feel barring or underutilized which.

Now with this update coming in will further emphasize that disappointment so for me when I went to the top of the world.

I was like dude this place had a ton of vendors here imagine if they loaded it up with NPCs nope completely empty tons of ghouls quest was still the same from what I saw.

And quite frankly I found that disappointing and I think some folks will encounter that form of disappointment frequently throughout this update if that sample size is to be representative of the entire product.

So it leaves you with the only hope we have is riding on Bethesda down the line adding more to the game to fill out these worlds bring these locations to life which I think will happen.

But it's one of those things where it may just reward you to be patient one change they've also made that'll be familiar to players in MMOs is team only environment.

So only you and your teammates aka companions can go into these locations friends on your team and strangers cannot join you here.

So if you're on a team with one of your buddies can't come into this location with you because this is where you're gonna be making storage choices that will apparently have consequences the notification also mentions that progress is saved less frequently here.

So there's always a chance that the server could kick you out mid conversation online game happenings can just occur.

And ruin your experience which I'm gonna be honest it happened to me early on I encountered a few tech hitches initially at one point my conversation wouldn't progress at all.

And the characters were marked as quote busy and quotes at this same time it said the servers were about to go into maintenance decide step both these issues I had the log out log back in.

And redo the conversation I didn't find it a big deal but it's worth noting for others because after that nothing cropped up so with those out of the way.


Fallout 76 Wastelanders having a new weapon

Let's talk about a new weapon in Fallout 76 Wastelanders, the bow and arrow I had a really cool encounter with some player who was on the pts that was just handing out to people new weapons.

And taking them to all these locations and so this person dropped me a bow with like 40 arrows and I was trying it out it doesn't feel super smooth.

And I think there's a bit of latency because it's an online game many times I was pulling the right trigger to slot my arrow into my bow but it wasn't happening.

There's a pacing to it that feels very awkward but when you release it it's a very powerful weapon and I really like it it's something that's fitful out for a while I don't know why I took so long for them to add it to 76.

Because I've really looked forward to having a bow and arrow in there it's kind of got a Far Cry feel to it if anything but I really really like the inclusion of this weapon.

So it is fun feels very Fallout it feels very natural for the universe doesn't break anything apart really good inclusion here but it didn't feel that great didn't feel like.

For example Skyrim so keep that all in mind during Bethesda's livestream they also announced that they're going to be looking into something called one wasteland.

Final Words

I wanted to mention this towards the end because this is something that for those who may be interested in playing Fallout 76 wastelanders want to pay attention to if you're familiar with Elder Scrolls on you'll know that years ago Bethesda announced 1 Tamriel essentially.

It normalized the game it equalized the playing field so if I'm level 40 I'm gonna be fighting level 40 enemies and if you're level 10 you're gonna be fighting level 10 enemies.

And it doesn't matter where we are in the map if we're gonna party together or not what your level is is going to be equalized to what you're fighting.

And this made the game much more accessible so players who are new didn't feel shy about joining in with a friend who's been playing the game for a thousand hours.

There wasn't that uneven playing field but however it didn't break the game for one experience or another and I think this would be a very very smart move for Bethesda.

I don't know why it's not a thing that's implemented off the bats maybe it's just for balancing 4 zones for those who want to get to a sense of a late game.

And then Bethesda wants to dial things back and re tweak them given that they want to engage a lot more of people playing it but yeah just do know that Bethesda is looking into a mechanic like this.

And so with all that in mind I do want to say I see potential here and I think people are naturally gonna mistake that for me loving it thinking it's incredible thinking the game's fixed.

I just see something with potential here though I think that 76 can start making legitimate steps forward if what I played is representative of the final product.

We don't know if some of the quests I'm doing are gonna become very rinse and repeat we don't know if the story is gonna end up sucking we don't know a lot of things will the game even function properly will there be another PR nightmare a lot can happen in about the month and change.

That we have leading up to Fallout 76 Wastelanders, so with that all in mind I leave you with my thoughts folks I see potential in Fallout 76 Wastelanders.

I'm not afraid to show it it just it it tickled the right spot I love seeing the dialog choices it felt like this is what 76 was supposed to be off the bat took a while to get there hopefully it pans out.
